What to expect from Counselling
The Well believes that it is important to ensure that the counselling offered is as helpful and effective as possible. The information which follows is provided to reduce the possibility of any misunderstanding between ourselves and client. We use the term ‘client’ to refer to those who come to us for help
The first appointment at the Well
The first appointment for a client is an assessment interview during which the counsellor will consider the needs being presented and whether The Well is the most appropriate agency. There is no charge for this session.
At the start, we offer 6 sessions of 50 minutes after which the effectiveness of the counselling will be evaluated by your counsellor and their supervisor. An extension of the counselling period may be agreed but still subject to regular reviews. On rare occasions such as illness, a new counsellor may be offered

What happens in counselling?
For those people who have prior experience of counselling, there will be a familiarity with the process of revealing personal issues and anxieties to another person. People without this experience will receive a full explanation of how counselling works and the different theoretical models and skills which counsellors may use. The purpose of all sessions will be to assist the client in finding their solutions to difficulties which will enable them to become healthy and whole.

Payment for Counselling
If counselling is appropriate, clients are asked to think carefully about the contribution they could afford. It is estimated that the full cost to The Well in providing a professional service is £45.00 per session and £55.00 for couples. However, it is the policy of The Well never to let financial difficulty prevent access to skilled help and support so that, depending on annual income, the following sliding scale of charges is suggested:

Failure to keep an appointment
At times, The Well receives more requests for help than it can meet and in these circumstances, if a client fails to keep an appointment without reasonable notice, it may be necessary to terminate counselling and offer the time to another client.
A £10.00 fee is charged in the exceptional circumstance where a client fails to attend a session without prior notice.

Ending the counselling sessions
It is usual for counselling to have a planned ending but the client has the right at any time to terminate the counselling and in this event as much notice as possible should be given. The Well Counselling Service may terminate counselling if, after discussion with the client, it is felt that further counselling would either be inappropriate or without benefit to the client.
Confidentiality during counselling
High standards of care and confidentiality will be maintained about information concerning clients. Information about clients will usually only be communicated to others if the client has given consent. In exceptional circumstances, a counsellor may disclose confidential information to others without consent in order to protect a client or others from serious harm, or when legally required to do so.
The Well does not and cannot provide assessments or reports to anyone outside of the session; in particular, no information can be used in any legal proceedings.
People sometimes seek counselling as a couple.
